Why move to Church Langley?
Church Langley is a popular modern village to the east of Harlow, in Essex. One of Harlow’s newest estates, Church Langley is a great choice for families, and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of London. We also cover property in the nearby districts of Old Harlow, Newhall, Potter Street and beyond.
There’s a great community vibe in the area and plenty to do, with beautiful open spaces and plenty of nearby recreational activities.
If you are looking for an estate agent in Church Langley, please pop into our office on Church Langley Way. We are a sales agent for Church Langley, and will be happy to help you.
A short history
Harlow was built in 1947 to the masterplan of Sir Frederick Gibberd. In order to create a community feel, the town was designed with separate neighbourhoods, each with local shops, health centres, schools, community facilities and green spaces.
The original Harlow New Town was built after World War II to ease overcrowding in London and the surrounding areas due to the mass devastation caused by the bombing during the Blitz.
Church Langley is a later addition, built during the 1990's and contains roughly 3500 homes.
Property here is almost exclusively new-build – modern, stylishly designed and well-furnished, with big gardens and driveways. There is a good range of two, three and four bedroom houses to suit all tastes – detached, semi-detached and terraced – as well as a few smaller maisonettes and flats.
If you are interested in putting your house on the market, our Sales Agents will be pleased to arrange a home valuation. Those looking to purchase property in Church Langley, Old Harlow, Newhall, Potter Street and surrounding areas can discuss their needs with our local experts and arrange viewings at suitable properties.

Shopping, eating and drinking
Church Langley itself is a residential area and benefits from a quiet, tranquil atmosphere.
There is a large Tesco for stocking up on groceries and the Brewers Fayre-owned Potters Arms provides decent, well-priced pub grub and has a warm and homely atmosphere, making it popular with families.
In the centre of Harlow, you’ll find a great selection of brand-name restaurants, plus a large number of smaller independent eateries. Whether you’re looking for European, Indian or Asian cuisine, there’s an option to suit you.
If shopping is one of your preferred pastimes, you’ll be pleased to hear there are two large pedestrianised centres: the Harvey Centre and Water Gardens. A market is held in the town centre four times a week, with Monday’s bric-a-brac proving particularly popular.
Things to do
Green space abounds in Church Langley, with the Playing Field, Brenthall Wood and Barnsley Wood all within easy walking distance. Families are well served, with two childrens play parks.
A concrete water tower, constructed in 1994, is Church Langley’s most iconic feature. Clearly visible for many miles around, the tower stores water for the businesses and homes located in the village and is also a popular location for daredevil abseilers.
A short distance away in the town centre you’ll find plenty of culture and entertainment. The town is well known for housing a major collection of over 100 public sculptures by artists such as Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and Ralph Brown. Many of these are owned by the Harlow Art Trust, an organisation set up in 1953 by Sir Frederick Gibberd, who felt that everyone should be able to enjoy great sculptures by great artists on every street corner.
The Harlow Playhouse is a fantastic entertainment venue, with live music, dance, comedy and theatre. The Parndon Mill Art Gallery and Gibberd Gallery also offer a vibrant programme of exhibitions and events.
Harlow Town Park provides a skate park, adventure playground, paddling pool and even a pets corner. If you enjoy cycling, Harlow’s network of bike trails is among the most extensive in the UK. The leisure centre offers a wide selection of sports and activities.
