A short history

In the 11th Century, Chingford was recorded in the Domesday Book as a small settlement.  It wasn’t until the railway came in 1873 that expansion really began.

The arrival of the North Circular Road in 1928 boosted Chingford’s appeal to the car-owning middle classes.  After the Second World War, developments led to the North Chingford that we see today.

Property wise, Chingford is one of the few locations in close proximity to London that hasn’t seen house prices rise extraordinarily over the last couple of years.  Perfect for families, or young professionals, there is a good choice, with everything from flats to Mock-Tudor houses and Edwardian terraces.

Transport links

Chingford offers easy access to the city, by underground from Walthamstow Central, or by train from North Chingford or Highams Park stations.  Liverpool Street can be reached in just 20 minutes.  There are also good bus services.

 

Shopping, eating and drinking

With an eclectic array of shops, hip restaurants and bars, the majority of which are independently owned, the North Chingford high street is the centre of this family-friendly community.

The monthly North Chingford market has become a very popular addition to the town, with a great selection of stalls.

If you are in need a spot of more serious retail therapy, there are plenty of large malls within a short train ride or drive.

For younger residents, the iconic Warehouse nightclub is just a fifteen minute drive or taxi ride away.  With its stripped back charm and top-of-the-range sound system, there is no better place to spend a Friday or Saturday night.

 

 

Things to do

Right on the edge of Epping Forest, North Chingford offers a wealth of open space for fans of walking or cycling.  A range of sports are available at the recently refurbished Waltham Forest Leisure Centre.

Perhaps the best known local landmark is the Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge in the heart of the forest.  Inside you can explore the interactive exhibitions on Tudor life.  Its quaint Butlers Retreat Cafe is a real treat, providing sublime views.
